Shhh, MC’s Listening

Filed under: Papa Dear,Sex Matters — kengkay @ 1:02 hapon

Dinner time.

The kids wanted to be excused from the table, we said yes. My husband and I were having an animated discussion that could always jump from one topic to another.

And then he started talking about some sexy stories he heard that really made us both laugh out loud (nope, am not sharing it, sorry :D ); he was really into it and was becoming loud, he didnt notice that MC creeped back into her place at the dining table.

It was only when I saw MC’s smile almost reaching her ears that I realized, that the Papa’s still into his sexy stories. I kicked him under the table; he stopped and it took a few seconds before he realized why I had to hurt him! And why he had to stop!

And then I asked MC with a smile, ‘and, why are you smiling?’ Well, her smile only grew wider and she wont get out of the dinner table until my husband and I stood up to clear the table! And yes, papa stopped his story telling; but not after MC caught some interesting parts!

Well, what could we do? Kids ears get longer when the stories are not for their ears :D

Papa’s French Fries

Filed under: Expat Blahs,Papa Dear — kengkay @ 6:12 hapon

I am a lucky wife. Not only is my husband 90% in charge of cleaning the house and maintaining the garden, he cooks better, too. He is someone who abhors fast food restaurants. He’d rather create a dish from scrap than buy those craps, he always says. For him, time and effort does not matter when he is cooking for his family. Isn’t he a doll?

Take for example, french fries. As someone growing up under the influence of American fast food, my thought is — french fries tastes better in Mcdo or Jollibee. I thought wrong. Nothing can compare to my husband’s french fries.

He has already perfected his french fries ritual. He would drove 35 kms away to buy the best potatoes from a big farm. Back home, he would then be washing, cutting, frying, salting and shaking them himself. Oh, the potatoes would all end up in the deep fryer, a special kitchen equipment he bought, just to make sure that the french fries would be cooked right. He is deep into modern kitchen equipments, too, my guy.

Being homemade, the french fries, taste better and most of all, not so oily. My husband uses ‘Biskin’, a type of vegetable oil that has a neutral taste. It is a little expensive than other brands but according to him, it works best for french fries. I dont know, I still use the other generic brands for baking.

Of course, the kids love papa’s french fries. It is always a special meal when papa would declare, ‘today is french fries day’! I am not complaining, as long as he’s the one doing the cooking. Because for me, I always have the frozen variety in the freezer, ready to be summoned!

The Christmas Lantern

During December, I am always proud to bring out and show off this Christmas lantern (parol) that I bought from Manila in 2003. I hand carried this precious lantern, protected it’s packaging from the wild throng of crowd in the airports and our stop over, and was lucky enough to snag an airplane seat for my dear package. Thus, the lantern arrived in Germany, without scratches and functioning.
The only real problem? We didnt realize that my sister, who bought it for me, got one that has a different watt than what we use here in Europe! But this was a problem quickly solved as we have a neighbor who deals with such things. After a day, he gave us a transformer for our precious lantern. And it’s been blinking with myriad of colors every December.
In the Philippines, a Christmas lantern is a must. You could find them in different materials: in plastic, in papel de Japon, in crepe papers, etc –but the most famous would be those coming from the Christmas capital of the Philippines, Pampanga; where the parols are mostly made of capiz (a native shell found only in the Philippine sea) and are filled with different colors and lights.
Our lantern is the real scene stealer in our street. Old or young, they cant help but be mesmerized when the play of color brightens the dark night. One very foggy afternoon, the kids’ eagerly took faster steps back home because they said they know where our house is: the lights from the lantern beckoned them home.
We simply love our lantern. My husband wanted to buy one more. Well, he doesnt need to nudge me. I am for more of these lanterns, actually!
